The incident took place in Stamford, around 7:10 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the area of East Main Street, and Lawn Avenue.

According to Stamford Police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth, officers responded to a report of a bicyclist hit by a vehicle.

The bicyclist, a 37-year-old Stamford resident, suffered visible injuries during the collision that were initially thought to be non-life threatening, Booth said.

The initial investigation revealed that the bicycle was being ridden westbound on East Main Street approaching the junction with Lawn Avenue.

As the bicyclist approached Lawn Avenue, a 2014 Chevy pickup truck being driven by a 27-year-old Stamford resident, attempted to make a left turn from East Main Street eastbound onto Lawn Avenue, Booth added.

Booth said the truck veered into the path of the bicyclist, who struck the front of the pick-up.

The initial impact sent the bicyclist into the side of a vehicle that was stopped on Lawn Avenue waiting to turn onto East Main Street, Booth said.

The bicyclist was then thrown from his bicycle, onto the ground.

The rider was initially transported to Stamford Hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries, but once at the hospital his status was changed to critical and he was admitted to the ICU, Booth added.

The drivers of the two vehicles involved were not injured, said Booth.

The initial on-scene investigation led to the driver of the pickup truck being issued an infraction ticket for making an improper left turn, he said.

The investigation remains open, anyone that may have any further information is being asked to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712.

The collision is being investigated by Sgt. Jeffrey Booth.
